Get Fit and Live Healthy Classes

GET FIT AND LIVE HEALTHY PROGRAM

The Healthy Kids & Teens Get Fit and Live Healthy program is designed to focus on early disease prevention and overall healthy child development. Every child deserves to be instilled with the knowledge of how to live a life free from the ravages of childhood obesity. We believe in educating kids and teens in the areas of nutrition and fitness to help reduce secondary health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression. We seek to empower kids and teens with the knowledge of how food fuels the body, and why daily food choices and daily exercise are keys to meeting their personal health goals.

How Does the Program Work?

Sessions can be provided where ever children and teens convene. The program is primarily conducted at school locations throughout Tennessee for a 12 week period or longer. Yearlong weekly training sessions are available, assembly (specific grades or entire school), and special event training. Class size and student selection is discussed with school administration. Class size ranges from large (100) to small (15 to 25) students.

The program sessions are interactive. Students are led through physical activity sessions where they "move" for at least 30 minutes completing, but not limited to, kickboxing, circuit training, dancing, and walking exercises. (All of the exercises have modifications for any students who cannot physically complete a 30 minute session). In addition to the physical activity session, students receive a nutrition lesson/demonstration. In the nutrition sessions, students learn the basics of nutrition and explore: calories, food groups, my plate, and more. They role-play various real-life situations, such as how to make healthy food selections when eating in fast-food restaurants, at a friend's house, or at family gatherings. Healthy snack/recipe offerings are provided in conjunction with various lessons.
